The Trading Name
The Kings Langley School Outdoor Education Centre Trust owns and runs the 'Brecon Forest Farmhouse'.
The overarching aim of the trust is to provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn about the outdoors in a residential setting.
The trust is a charitable organisation run by volunteer trustees who combine their wide variety of expertise in education, business and industry ensuring the Farmhouse continues to thrive.
The Brecon Forest Farmhouse is a converted late seventeenth century farmhouse with an attached barn which was added in the mid eighteenth century.
The Brecon Forest Farmhouse was ‘found’ by a teacher from Kings Langley School in 1966. Hertfordshire County Council leased the buildings and grounds from the Forestry Commission in 1967 and carried out the basic conversion. Kings Langley School agreed to pay the running costs and working parties of students had completed the conversion by April 1969 when the first group of students attended a course at the Centre.
Following privatisation of the local forests the freehold was purchased by Kings Langley School in 1987, after a major fundraising effort.
In 1992 the building was listed grade II on the advice of CADW (Welsh Heritage) and in 1994 the Kings Langley School Outdoor Education Centre Trust was formed as a registered charity to own and maintain the building.
Major improvements have continued but the house maintains its vernacular character, with exposed beams and inglenook fireplace.
This work is made possible by funds raised by students, parents, former students and staff of Kings Langley School as well as the trustees of the Farmhouse. We also rely on income from reservations and donations. Donations may also be gift aided.
